The core of our tracabeality system: the LIMS

All the operations and data regarding the samples are recorded in the Oracla database of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

The Sapphire LIMS from Labvantage has been specifically developped for Imagene in order to store and manage the biological data of samples. This information system interacts with all the stations of the industrial platform providing permanent and secure data for each DNA.

The LIMS system enables :

  • to guarantee the unique identification code of each sample
  • to track any sample during the encapsulation process
  • to get a real time access to the data and the samples in process
  • to track all the components ( shell, vial, caps, racks, ...), the consumables (tubes, tips, microplates, …), the solutions, the steps of the process and also the identity of the experimenters
  • to edit the reports of the process
  • to archive the history of the process (all the data are stored for a minimum of 40 years)

The DNA samples are identified by a unique bar code. Each tube is placed in a rack (right side on the picture) on the aliquoting robot.
The shells labeled with the DATAMATRIX code and containing the glass vial are positioned in a rack (in red on the picture). The robot aliquots the DNA in each sample according to the customer willingness. This step allows to match the bar code of the tube to the DATAMATRIX code of the shell.

Identification of the Datamatrix codes

The codes DATAMATRIX are printed at the bottom of the shells. Only one readind is necessary to record the codes of all the shells from one plate.

After reading, the DATAMATRIX codes are sent to the robot which then matches them with the shells. The data are sent back to the LIMS traceability system for recording.

Recording the data


Imagene choose the online data recording. All the data are sent automatically and continuously in a crypted manner to several external data centers. This method is the most reliable because the external hard drive are duplicated. This way, Imagene secures the storage and availability of all the data.
