Made of stainless steel, the shell protects the glass vial and ensures (with the cap) complete airtightness of the minicapsule. The convenient 0.7 cm3 volume (18mm high and 7.5mm in diameter) is compatible with the SBS standard 96-well plates. The bi-dimensional Data Matrix code is printed on the external bottom of the shell for easy visibility. Therefore, DNAshells can be stored for decades at room temperature in a very efficient way in laboratories.
Our studies show that dried DNA can be preserved almost indefinitely without alteration.
